SANYO's Kasai Green Energy Park Wins Good Lighting Award
SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO) is pleased to announce that SANYO 's Kasai Green Energy Park, a next-generation eco-friendly facility equipped with the Panasonic Group's cutting-edge green technology, won the “Good Lighting Award” produced by the Illuminating Engineering Institute of
The “Good Lighting Award” was established to honor facilities equipped with well-designed lighting. The Kasai Green Energy Park was highly appraised as a facility utilizing cutting-edge eco-friendly lighting such as “Lithium-ion Solar Streetlights” jointly developed by Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. (Panasonic Electric Works) and SANYO , as well as Panasonic Electric Works' LED lights operated on DC (installed on trial) which can utilize DC electricity generated by solar panels or stored in rechargeable batteries. This award is shared with Kajima Corporation and Kandenko.
The Kasai Green Energy Park, located in SANYO 's Kasai Plant (Kasai City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan), is equipped with 1MW of solar panels, a 1.5MWh large-scale lithium-ion battery system and various energy-saving equipment, and is used as a testing site for the Panasonic Group's green technologies. At the Kasai Green Energy Park, the company is conducting various proving tests for energy management.
The Lithium-ion Solar Streetlight located in the facility is an eco-friendly streetlight equipped with highly efficient LEDs which are powered by clean energy generated by the attached SANYO HIT?*1 solar panels with the world's highest class*2 cell conversion efficiency and stored in the lithium-ion batteries located on a back of the solar panels. The Lithium-ion Solar Streetlight has been marketed by Panasonic Electric Works since January, 2011. In addition, with the trial-installation of the LED lights operated on DC developed by Panasonic Electric Works,Under efforts of led spotlight boosting the viability of LED luminaires, many companies are expanding high-power selections. SANYO has developed a system to supply the DC electricity to the LED lights directly from the lithium-ion battery system which stores the DC electricity generated by the solar panels without the need to convert it from DC to AC, making it possible to reduce the loss due to conversion and therefore supply electricity more efficiently. Given the expected increase in LED lights operated on DC due to the popularization of solar power generation and energy storage systems, SANYO is conducting the proving test for the system as a pioneering experiment.
SANYO, a company with technologies for both “Creating Energy” and “Storing Energy”, is working toward the development, commercialization and popularization of the system combining solar panels and rechargeable batteries.
