After playing in obscurity, Bosh in the spotlight with Heat
Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh is a star on the basketball court. Away from it, Bosh said he prefers to be invisible.

Nine years removed from leading Dallas Lincoln to the nation's No. 1 ranking with a 40-0 record, Bosh has developed into one of the NBA's best forwards.

But for a player who wants no part of the limelight, Bosh certainly didn't do himself any favors last July when he signed a six-year, $110 million contract to play alongside two of the league's top players in Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.

During the last year, Bosh has been thrust into the national spotlight after hiding in relative obscurity the first seven years of his NBA career in hockey-crazy Toronto.

That's become even more pronounced with the Heat back in the NBA Finals for the first time since 2006 and facing - of all teams - Bosh's hometown Mavericks.

"It's kind of surreal, but at the end of the day we have to play somebody to accomplish our goal and really it doesn't matter," Bosh said. "It's just a coincidence."

What's more is that many of Bosh's big decisions have come in Dallas, so it would make the perfect place for him to win his first NBA title.

In May 2003, after playing one season at Georgia Tech, Bosh announced at Lincoln that he was declaring for the NBA draft.

When the clock struck midnight last July 1 to signal the beginning of free agency, Bosh was in Dallas and met with representatives from five NBA teams (Toronto, Chicago, Houston, New York and Miami) over a three-hour period. Bosh's younger brother, Joel, was there to witness the madness.

"At midnight, somebody rang the doorbell. And they literally put their offers on the table that night," Joel Bosh said. "They all had A-1 presentations. They all came bearing gifts. It was a trip to see."

Bosh decided that the best place for him to win an NBA championship was Miami. Bosh is a great fit on the Heat, considering he prefers to deflect attention to others. Wade and James soak up plenty of the headlines nationally. Bosh said he's had his cell phone turned off for weeks.

Heat posters and shirts dot this city from one beach to the other, most featuring Bosh as part of Miami's "Big Three." If it were up to Bosh, however, he'd have no problem standing behind Wade and James on the promotional items. Bosh prefers to linger in the shadows.

Bosh, a member of the National Honor Society, doesn't listen to music in the locker room before games like many of his teammates. Instead, he reads books to mellow out.

"I get one, and I like to wind down and have a calm moment before the craziness happens," Bosh said, "and really enjoy being in my own world."

Off the court, Bosh is anything but in his own world these days. In late September, Bosh purchased a 12,000-square-foot home that has seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms in Miami Beach for $12.5 million (a steal considering it was originally listed for $16 million).

The mansion features 20-foot ceilings, a gym, an elevator, an infinity pool and a gourmet kitchen, which is perfect considering Bosh employs his own chef.

Miami Beach is quite the contrast from the colder days when Bosh lived in a modest condo in downtown Toronto, waking up to snow instead of the beachfront.

Bosh's father, Noel, moved from Dallas to Miami in late November and lives in Bosh's guesthouse. Bosh's brother, Joel,You can easily say that it is a passion or a way to express yourself. Ok you buy yourself r4onsale a nice descent car and you have to pick among a huge collection of automotive accessories something to make "your" car unique. and his mother,The particular demise with the incandescent bulb bluebright continues calmly yet non-stop and in less as compared to any year or two today the sole goods stocked in stores is going to be lower electricity bulbs, Freida, still live in Dallas. Joel visits often and has been in town for several playoff games.

Noel Bosh said he was recently hired as vice president of business operations for Dependable Packaging Solutions and plans to move into his own home soon,It pays to go to professionals with bestlight a proven track record in LED lighting, a vast selection of excellent quality products from various vendors that live up to their label, and a history of successfully completed projects. though that is easier said than done.

"This house,These were some reasons why people are keen to use these lights, hope that they will be used brightstal in a similar way in future as well. you'd have to see it to believe it, and it's just four blocks from the beach," Noel said. "He's going to have a hard time getting me to move out of here."

Bosh proposed to his fiancee, Adrienne Williams, in late August in front of his new home soon after it went into contract.

"How could you say no to that?" Joel said, laughing.

Freida said this is an exciting time for the entire Bosh family. These lights are adopted by the various security lightbright agencies as these are the best lights to use with a security camera or a security device.

"I know he wants that ring bad," Freida said, "to add to his collection."

Lincoln coach Leonard Bishop said it's been rewarding to watch Bosh on TV this postseason when he uses a pump fake before driving to the basket. That's a drill that Bosh was put through over and over again in high school.

Bosh's mid-range game is a lot like his personality off the court, not flashy but sharp. But Bosh hasn't been able to escape notice since signing with the Heat.

"I knew it was not the popular choice for outsiders looking in, and I wasn't really worried about that," Bosh said. "I was just focused on winning the championship. I knew it was going to bring a lot more elements to my life and my family's life, but that's what I've been dreaming of since I was a kid, so I had to take advantage of it while I had the opportunity.

"So many people disagreed with our moves. But, you know, we feel like it was the right choice, and I think it's evident."

Racer Rifle Spotlight - Kaitlin Cleven

Racer Rifle Spotlight - Kaitlin Cleven
Looking back at the 2010-11 for Murray State Rifle,You can easily say that it is a passion or a way to express yourself. So what's the story? Ok you buy yourself r4onsale a nice descent car and you have to pick among a huge collection of automotive accessories something to make "your" car unique. there is much to be proud of.

Probably the most impressive year was turned in by Kaitin Cleven, a sophomore from Greenleaf, Wisc.

She had a good freshman year where she worked hard and showed improvement.

“No one on the team worked harder than Katie,” MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. These were some reasons why people are keen to use these lights, hope that they will be used brightstal in a similar way in future as well. “When we started fall practice we knew someone needed to step up and contribute. Katie went beyond that, she performed well and was a leader.”

Cleven led the Racers with a match aggregate average of 1166.71. Her 576 smallbore average and 590 air rifle average were good enough for All-American honors in both guns, joining teammates Emily Quiner and Nehemiah Gillman.

Coach Lollar was not particularly surprised at Cleven's improvement.

“That Katie got better was not a surprise, because the level of consistency she maintained throughout the year was really impressive,” Lollar said. “And I'm not just talking about matches. An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights. Every day she came to the range to challenge her best. What everyone else saw on match day, I got to see every day at practice.”

Cleven's biggest match of the fall came when she defeated one of the best air rifle shooters in the world at West Virginia, with a score of 596.

“That day she learned that she could compete with anyone,” Lollar added.

It was a sort of a humorous thing on the team and not very funny at times, how Cleven came within a few points of getting 580 in smallbore. Cleven saved that for the biggest day of the year at the NCAA Championships.

“In the two weeks building up to the championships, Katie really pounded her weaknesses in training,” Lollar said. “She changed some things after the qualifier and I think that made the difference.”

Down the stretch, at the three biggest matches of the year, OVC Championships, NCAA Qualifier and the NCAA Championships, Cleven's aggregate score was 1170, 1169 and 1169.

When the season was over, Cleven finished her Junior Olympic career with a flourish, making the finals in both smallbore and air rifle and competed well with some of the best female shooters in the country.

She understands that the MSU Rifle program is a team effort.

“God blessed me with great coaches and great teammates and blessed us all with a great season,” Cleven said. “Without them, there is no way I would've had that kind of season. All of us improved a lot and were able to push each other as teammates to get better. That combined with the guidance of Coach Lollar, we had one of our most successful seasons so far. We all learned this year and hope to continue working hard to get better.”

And last but not least, at the spring athletic banquet,It pays to go to professionals with bestlight a proven track record in LED lighting, a vast selection of excellent quality products from various vendors that live up to their label, and a history of successfully completed projects. Cleven was voted Female Athlete of the Year, by Murray State's Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), marking back-to-back seasons that MSU Rifle has won the award.incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces. Emily Quiner was the winner in 2010.

“I think it is an honor to be recognized by your peers,” Lollar said. “Having two athletes in a row win the award is very nice. Our student-athletes understand the work and sacrifice needed.”

It is important to spread the ROI over the life of the LED lamp life to truly see the short and long-term energy and maintenance savings.

Friends of Stonehaven Open Air Pool chairman Mike Robins said the contamination had come from the sea when the water was pumped in.

“Any contaminant was from an external source and it was not sabotaged,” Mr Robins said.

The pool has since been emptied, cleaned, refilled and is now being filtered.

“It’s all good news so far because tests were done before we pumped in the new water and they were clear. The pool’s full now and we've checked again and it is fine,” Mr Robins said.

“We will now start the backwashes to filter out sand and seaweed and then we start putting chemicals in to bring about the balance we need.

“Everything is bang on target and we expect the final bacteria tests to take place next Monday. Assuming it passes that, we hope to open on Wednesday or Thursday next week, which is a mighty relief.

“We’ll have checks in place to make sure we don’t get caught out again like this.

“We were crushed and disappointed when it happened but at least with all the press coverage people know we’re here and will be open soon.”

The art-deco attraction had 27,000 visitors last season and has recently undergone a £40,000 renovation with new energy saving boilers installed.

Dubal mulls shifting to LED lighting
Dubai Aluminium (Dubal), operator one of the world's largest single-site primary aluminium smelters, is evaluating the feasibility of converting its lighting system to energy efficient LED lighting, said a senior official.Philips LED business is inside of Philips lighting so it Led light is more difficult to determine whether they are meeting expectations.

“LED technology is not only well tested and proven to be extremely energy efficient but also has become more affordable,” added Tayeb Al Awadhi,Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs. vice president: power & desalination, Dubal. The replacement lighting we feel is far led downlight superior to that of the LED lighting. “The aim is to embark on plant-wide full scale LED lighting conversion at Dubal as soon as practicable.”

“Furthermore,In many ways LED lights compact fluorescent provide the best of both worlds. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly these energy-saving bulbs are mercury-free,While SmartView has been slow DSTT and unstable in the past, it seems to have improved greatly with recent updates. making them environment friendly during disposal.”

Dubal has also taken steps to minimize the air-conditioning load by setting the units’ thermostats to 24 degrees Centigrade during working hours and 27 degrees during non-working hours, with advisory stickers being pasted on every thermostat controller to remind users of the initiative.

In addition, a review is currently in progress to convert Dubal’s electrically-driven air-conditioning chillers to a much more efficient system using absorption chiller technology, Al Awadhi said.

“Being steam-driven, absorption chiller technology uses approximately 75 per cent less electrical power than conventional air-conditioning system,” explained Al Awadhi.

“Phase 1 of the project — which entails trialing absorption chiller technology at Dubal’s desalination control building — should begin by the end of 2011. Once operational, the absorption chiller is expected to reduce Dubal’s power consumption by approximately 2 million kWh per annum.”

Dubal will ensure that all unnecessary lights are switched off after working hours, wherever applicable; and that all computers/monitors are also switched off when employees leave after a shift at the office, Al Awadhi added.

“A dedicated committee has been formed within Dubal with the mandate to implement these and other energy-saving initiatives,” he concluded. – TradeArabia News Service

New Joplin football coach’s first job is to beat despair

New Joplin football coach’s first job is to beat despair
A man in work boots walks through the littered sludge of what used to be the football practice field at Joplin High School. His steps are careful. He’s aware of nails and shards of materials that once held things together.

Many of those things have come apart.

“Hey,” he calls over to the men with him. “Here’s the goal post.”

Chris Shields was hired in February to be the football coach at Joplin. He said it was something like a dream job then. There are good memories — Joplin was a big city to Shields, who grew up about an hour away in Altamont, Kan. — and coaching here seemed like the perfect next step. All he had to do was fulfill the final semester of his contract at Holt High in Wentzville, near St. Louis, and move to Joplin in June. The two men walking with him now, assistant coaches Ethan Place and Brandon Taute, agreed to follow Shields here.

Now, walking on what’s left of the practice field, Shields looks into the distance and sees the milewide path of the EF-5 tornado that passed through last Sunday. It flattened houses and ended lives. Joplin High, a brick structure designed to last for decades, lay in ruins 300 yards away.It was quick and light when I used dsttマジコン on a Windows 7 laptop, and gave me no trouble throughout a day of rigorous testing.Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one. Phone lines are severed and cellular service is unreliable. Phone calls about the safety of players and other assistants went unanswered for 48 hours. Until arriving here on Tuesday morning, Shields had no idea whether his players and assistants were alive or dead.

Shields, Place and Taute made the five-hour drive from Wentzville to find the coaches alive, but there was no such certainty about the players. Two days after the storm, at least one player is missing — although a school official will say later in the week that the young man is safe.

“We’re assuming good things,” Shields says. “You just pray and hope for the best.”

Football, especially in a town like this, is about hope and community. But it’s difficult to find hope when it’s buried in the rubble of a shattered city.

Shields says that if you’re willing to dig deep enough, it’s still here somewhere.

? ? ?

Shields and his two assistants step over a sheet-metal barricade,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. into a hallway of the destroyed school. This is what used to be the trophy room. Mementoes of big victories and sweet memories are part of the wreckage. Championship trophies are either lying amid twisted metal and torn insulation or still perched on their shelves, covered with a brown grime circulated by the tornado.

The coaches step carefully.

“Watch for nails,” Place says, and the men proceed.

Three months ago, in a school conference room not far from here, Shields accepted the job. He sat with athletic director Jeff Starkweather, who says now that he had wanted a man with a vision, an ambassador not only for the school but for Joplin itself.sale of LED for lighting applications.  Semileds is led lights only a minor palyer and should currently not be mentioned in the same breath as the other others This is the city’s only public high school, and football is important here.

A few weeks later, Shields met with his new players and unveiled a clock that was programmed to count down the time until the Eagles’ regular-season opener against Glendale High in Springfield.

“Every second counts,” Shields told his players,LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios. because there was work to be done.

Now the coach stands in the center of a changed city, demonstrating that while he might not live here yet, he’s part of the community. He arrived early on Tuesday, heading to assistant coach Craig Lynch’s destroyed home to help move debris and preserve what hadn’t been ruined. There he was told that his staff members were rattled but safe.

Shields then headed to the school to see what might be salvaged. The basketball gym is caved in, the fields littered with debris. The coaches enter the building, positioning their shoes on smooth boards and chunks of old ceiling, making their way slowly toward a hallway that leads to the football offices.

Android meets LED bulbs in Google smart-home push

Android meets LED bulbs in Google smart-home push
By the end of this year,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. people will be able to buy an LED light bulb controllable from an Android device, part of Google's move into home automation.

At the Google I/O conference today, Google demonstrated how Android devices, including tablets and smartphones, can act as a hub for controlling multiple devices in the home, including lighting, appliances,It was quick and light when I used dsttマジコン on a Windows 7 laptop, and gave me no trouble throughout a day of rigorous testing. thermostats, and music.
Coming to a home network near you: a Lighting Sciences Group A19 LED bulb controllable by Android devices.

Google concocted a lighting demo system with Lighting Sciences Group, which developed an LED bulb that can talk to Android. It uses a new mesh network wireless protocol rather than Wi-Fi, ZigBee, or the other proprietary home automation protocols.

The hope is that software developers will create applications that use the home automation system of connected devices. The demo at Google I/O was of a person playing a shooting video game with the lights turning on and off as shots were fired, sale of LED for lighting applications.  Semileds is led lights only a minor palyer and should currently not be mentioned in the same breath as the other others said Eric Holland, the director of electrical engineering at Lighting Sciences Group.

"Lighting is very visible and prevalent so it made sense for it to be first foray for the platform," Holland said. "Every one of the lights has a radio integrated inside the lamp so there's no additional equipment."

Many companies are building home automation systems built around connected objects,Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one. which give people a way to set up schedules around lighting and heating/cooling. People can also turn plugged-in items on and off from a central point, such as a tablet or small dashboard.

Having many devices communicating using ZigBee or Wi-Fi could create interference problems, one reason why a new protocol is being used, Holland said. Since it is open-source, Google and Lighting Sciences Group hope it will be adopted by other lighting and home automation companies. The networked bulbs will be available by the end of the year at the same cost as their general-purpose LEDs, for which prices range from under $20 to about $35 for a 60-watt equivalent.

Google enters a crowded field of home automation and consumer smart-grid companies that are trying to get a foothold for smart-home products.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Illuminates the Future of Lighting

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Illuminates the Future of Lighting
- Lighting technology touches nearly everything we do--from illuminating our homes and workplaces, to making a left turn at an intersection, or snapping a photo with a cell phone. Given the sheer ubiquity of lighting,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. it's easy to take the technology for granted--but lighting is the subject of intense scrutiny by scientists at two Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute research centers.

The field of lighting is undergoing a fascinating, revolutionary transformation. The century-old light bulb is steadily ceding ground to its high-tech successor, the light-emitting diode (LED). While the promise of LEDs as a long-lived,LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios. energy-efficient heir to light bulbs is undeniable, the true promise of LED and solid-state lighting technology transcends illumination. LEDs offer the potential to control, manipulate, and use light in entirely new ways for a surprisingly diverse range of areas. Our understanding of all types of lighting continues to grow.

Rensselaer is a leading voice in expanding the frontier of lighting research. The university has assembled a critical mass of experts and researchers who are investigating the full spectrum of lighting and lighting research. Much of this innovation is facilitated through a pair of world-class, industry-focused research centers: the Lighting Research Center (LRC) and the Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center (ERC). The complementary centers, both situated about 25 kilometers east of where Thomas Edison perfected the first mass-produced incandescent light bulb, are using lighting to create a brighter, more sustainable future.

Established in 1988, the LRC has built an international reputation as a reliable source for objective information about lighting technologies and applications. The ERC, launched in 2008, is developing new technologies and applications for improved and smarter lighting devices and systems.

"LEDs and lighting research present a rich opportunity, in terms of energy efficiency and human health, and toward unearthing a host of yet-undiscovered applications," said Rensselaer President Shirley Ann Jackson. "With innovation, ingenuity, and old-fashioned hard work, the LRC and ERC at Rensselaer are rewriting the rules for making, manipulating, exploiting, and understanding the effects of lighting. And by partnering closely with industry, we are ensuring these new technologies are moving swiftly from the lab to the marketplace."

Lighting Research Center

The LRC is the world's leading university-based research and education organization devoted to lighting. Programs and activities at the center include laboratory testing and real-world demonstration and evaluation of lighting products, while also conducting research into energy efficiency, new products and technologies, lighting design, and human factors issues. The LRC offers a doctoral program and one- and two-year master's degree programs in lighting, as well as global training programs for government agencies, utilities, contractors, lighting designers, and other lighting professionals.

"We see the LRC as the nucleus for independent lighting research and education, as well as the pre-eminent source of objective, timely information about lighting technologies, applications, and about human response to light," said Rensselaer Professor and LRC Director Mark Rea. "For more than two decades, the LRC has transformed science into real-world applications, while always remaining true to its mission--advancing the effective use of light for society and the environment."

For example, research by Rensselaer Professor Nadarajah Narendran led to the development of the Scattered Photon Extraction method for improving white LED performance by more than 30 percent. Globally, the LRC is performing laboratory testing of LED-based, off-grid lighting products under a World Bank Group contract to improve access to modern, sale of LED for lighting applications.  Semileds is led lights only a minor palyer and should currently not be mentioned in the same breath as the other others clean lighting in Sub-Saharan Africa. In another project, Rensselaer Associate Professor Mariana Figueiro conducted the first field studies examining how light impacts teenagers' sleeping habits and school performance, contributing to a new daylighting design guide for schools by Rensselaer Professor Russ Leslie.

Smart Lighting ERC

Just as the transistor revolutionized modern electronics, LEDs are poised to enable the next generation of future lighting systems with radically new capabilities. The Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center at Rensselaer, funded primarily by the National Science Foundation, is advancing the fundamental scientific and engineering approaches required to realize this potential of LEDs and solid-state lighting. The ERC team is working to create better LEDs, as well as new sensors and systems required to effectively to monitor and control these LEDs.

"We see the ERC as the advanced research engine for future solid-state lighting systems that will bring a vast new range of capabilities to lighting," said Rensselaer Professor and ERC Director Robert Karlicek. "We currently work with the LRC to define critical human-factor considerations for lighting to ensure that future LED luminaires, lighting sensors, and control technologies are both energy efficient and optimized for human health and safety. These lighting solutions provide additional benefits, including data delivery and efficient, vivid displays."

In one project, Rensselaer Professor Partha Dutta works with an interdisciplinary team of undergraduate students to demonstrate the feasibility of LCD-based virtual windows. To make virtual window technology a reality, the displays need to be bright and efficient enough to reproduce light from an actual window. Rensselaer Professors Christian Wetzel and Shawn-Yu Lin are developing the technologies needed to create a family of polarized LEDs in various colors that will achieve the required brightness and reduction in energy consumption.

Energy and the Environment

Lighting and lighting research at Rensselaer fall under the university's strategic research thrust of Energy and the Environment. The research leaders who work, study, and innovate at Rensselaer share a common focus: unearthing new opportunities for solving the 21st century's most challenging problems. It was quick and light when I used dsttマジコン on a Windows 7 laptop, and gave me no trouble throughout a day of rigorous testing.

"Lighting for illumination, and for televisions and other display devices, comprises a considerable percentage of energy usage in the United States and around the world,Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one." said Rensselaer Provost Robert Palazzo. "This challenge presents an opportunity, and Rensselaer--particularly through the ERC and LRC--is deeply committed to innovating solutions for greater efficiency in lighting technologies and applications."

Right now, more than 6.5 billion people are competing for the Earth's dwindling supply of fossil fuels. By 2050, there will be 8 to 10 billion, and major advances in energy technology will be required to meet their needs. Rensselaer has faced that challenge by launching and expanding programs in renewable energy sources and energy conservation. The Institute is also dedicated to tackling major environmental concerns, including sustainable development and the global need for clean water. Lighting technology is a key component of this strategic thrust.

"The ERC is focused on educating a new class of electrical engineers and materials scientists who understand both the fundamental physical science and engineering of advanced solid-state lighting systems," said David Rosowsky, dean of the School of Engineering at Rensselaer. "This is a critical component of our mission to educate the next generation of engineering leaders, who have the multidisciplinary knowledge and experience to innovate local solutions to the grand, global challenges we will face in the coming decades."

You may have started to see some odd-looking — and expensive — light bulbs show up at your local home-improvement store.

Earlier this year, Home Depot started selling a Philips AmbientLED bulb that is designed to replace the standard 60-watt light bulb. If you'd seen it, you might have quickly passed it by after seeing its price: a whopping $40 each.

But it's worth another look, if only because many people are betting the bulb represents the future of home lighting.

According to the U.S.sale of LED for lighting applications.  Semileds is led lights only a minor palyer and should currently not be mentioned in the same breath as the other others Department of Energy, some 971 million 60-watt light bulbs are in use in the United States, mostly in homes. To encourage energy efficiency, the government is raising energy standards for light bulbs, which will mean a ban on incandescent bulbs in coming years.

Currently, the main alternative to incandescent bulbs is the compact fluorescent light. But while CFLs have grown in popularity in recent years, many consumers have resisted them. CFLs are far more energy efficient than their incandescent equivalents and last much longer but have significant drawbacks.

One big negative is that they contain mercury, meaning they're unsafe to be thrown out in the regular trash and require thoughtful cleanup when they break. Many are slow to reach full brightness, even those billed as "instant on." And though their price has come down markedly in the past 10 years, CFLs still cost significantly more than incandescents.

What's more, while CFLs outlast incandescents, their life spans tend to be shorter than advertised. Most CFLs can't be dimmed. And many consumers despise the blue-green light many CFLs emit.Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one.

For those reasons, many lighting experts in government and the lighting and technology industries are betting LED bulbs will be the eventual replacement for incandescents. They don't contain mercury, are truly instant-on, and the new 60-watt-equivalent bulbs typically can be dimmed.

Meanwhile, LED bulbs are expected to have life spans several times that of even CFLs. And they've been designed to emulate the light of incandescent bulbs.

At about 12 to 13 watts, they use slightly less energy than CFLs and less than one-quarter of the energy of a 60-watt bulb. And unlike CFLs or incandescents, they're based on the same rapidly improving semiconductor technology found in the chips inside your PC and smartphone.

Thanks to that, LED bulbs should get more efficient in coming years. It was quick and light when I used dsttマジコン on a Windows 7 laptop, and gave me no trouble throughout a day of rigorous testing. The Department of Energy has set a target to have a 60-watt-equivalent bulb use just 10 watts — and some folks in the industry think they can get the energy use down even lower.LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios.

LED bulbs have been around for many years, but the initial 60-watt-equivalent bulbs mostly were made by off-brands and startup companies and sold only by enthusiast websites. While you could find some LED bulbs in major stores over the past year or so, they tended to be for use in recessed lighting or for replacing lower output incandescents.

Now they're being produced by major lighting companies, including Philips and Sylvania, and are being backed by major retailers, including Home Depot and Lowe's.

Lowe's started selling Sylvania's 60-watt-equivalent bulb online late last year and recently began offering it in stores. In addition to the Philips bulb, Home Depot has begun selling a 60-watt-equivalent LED bulb from Lighting Science Group in some of its stores under its house brand,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. EcoSmart.

In recent months, I've been testing out the Philips and the EcoSmart bulbs. The best thing I can say about them is that as strange as they may look — the Philips bulb has yellow glass segmented by three metal grooves and the EcoSmart bulb has what looks to be a squashed glass head — the light they give off is unremarkable. It's bright and warm, but, to my eye at least, basically indistinguishable from what would be produced by an incandescent light.

The bulbs give off more light — measured in lumens — than a standard 60-watt bulb. And the coatings used on their glass are designed to filter the light they emit so it appears more "natural."

You probably will want to hold off on buying such bulbs for now because their cost outweighs their advantages. Even factoring in the LEDs' longer expected life spans — which have yet to be confirmed — CFLs are a better deal for now.

But keep an eye on the LED bulbs. They're a bright idea in lighting and very likely the bulbs of the future.

Spa Customers Claim To Lose Weight In Pod Capsule
When Ruby Ruiz is too tired to work out, she goes to the spa and lays inside a pod called the SlimLine Capsule.Under efforts of led spotlight boosting the viability of LED luminaires, many companies are expanding high-power selections.

"You just wake up and you're skinnier! It's great, very convenient," she said.

The device works like a sauna. Light emitting diodes -- or LED lights -- inside the pod raise your core body temperature. Users often use special creams and wear special suits to make it even hotter.

Cyntha Gans, owner of Planet Beach Contempo Spa, said the temperature starts at about 158 degrees and goes to about 180 degrees.

"The SlimLine capsule actually is a machine that tricks your body into thinking that it's working out," she said.

Gans said she recommends customers use to the device for 25 minutes at a time, up to three times a week. She said most results are seen after 30 days. but some customers notice an immediate difference.

She also said the benefits go beyond weight loss. She said LED lighting helps combat the effects of aging on the skin and also has therapeutic benefits.

"I have some clients over the age of 50 that have osteoarthritis, and I myself had a torn meniscus and started getting into the machine and after two months, I'm back on the roads running again without any kind of surgery or therapy, except for using the Slim Capsule," she said.

Dr. Richard Peterson, with UT Medicine San Antonio,Although this article shows that Cree's led lighting and Philips LED product sales are not equal it is important to note that Philips LED sales agreed there are benefits to using LED photo therapy. "I was kind of skeptical about it, but after using it for maybe about a month or two, I definitely saw results and I love the results that I got," she said.

Peterson suggested people with health issues talk to their doctor before using any type of sauna therapy.

Right now, Planet Beach is the only place in town with the SlimLine Capsule. Memberships cost about $80 a month and include use of various spa treatment devices and services.

Mid-size sedan swaggers back onto the scene with a new attitude

Mid-size sedan swaggers back onto the scene with a new attitude

Dodge has transfused some much needed horsepower into its mid-size sedan.

Introduced in 2008 as a replacement for the Dodge Stratus, the Avenger took a beating in the automotive media due to a lack of power and poor fit and finish of its mediocre materials.

Flash forward to 2011 and the engineers at corporate headquarters are putting their new Pentastar V6 engine into just about every car on the roster including the Avenger. BAM! We have a new attitude Avenger on the street.

DESIGN:

For 2011, the Avenger is no longer the sidekick to the more muscular new generation Dodge Charger, but it does share the new signature Dodgebrand"splitcrosshair" grille along with some minor sheet metal tweaks. Large halogen headlights bookend the new grille and new projector beam fog lamps reside below the bumper giving the Avenger an increased aggressiveness from the front.

Large, pronounced wheel arches and tall rear fenders add to the poised-to-pounce look. The classic muscle car proportions of long hood and short trunk are not often seen with a four-door sedan,Although this article shows that Cree's led lighting and Philips LED product sales are not equal it is important to note that Philips LED sales but the Avenger carries it off quite successfully.

The restyled rear fascia is now the home of two large "ring of fire" LED tail lights and a sporty wing on top of the trunk lid.

The Avenger has raised the levels of craftsmanship, content and comfort. The all-new instrument panel, chrome bezels, gauge faces and the new multi-function threespoke steering wheel transform the driver's seat into a cockpit-like experience.

The armrests and the instrument panel are now soft to the touch, and new interior finishes a remorepleasing to the eye, but the overall look is still sparse.

The driver and passengers will enjoy the upgraded seats with more cushioning material and better bolstering.Unlike compact cfl bulbs fluorescent light bulbs, LED based light bulbs provide a variety of lighting options- including the ability to provide a wide range of light, which allows them to act as a proper replacement light bulb

The Avenger's cabin is now much quieter. Noise and vibration have been reduced with 45 new sound-deadening treatments, including an acoustic glass windshield, laminated side glass, print still offers the only truly dstti unlimited 4G plan in America, and it's the only service you can safely use as an alternative to a home Internet connection.and new sound absorption materials throughout the vehicle.Under efforts of led spotlight boosting the viability of LED luminaires, many companies are expanding high-power selections.

The Avenger SXT's centre console was topped by a Garmin Navigation System, one of the industry's best, with a 6.5-inch touch-screen display. Music is supplied by Dodge's media centre with voice command that is easy to use and offers SIRIUS Satellite Radio, a 30-gigabyte hard drive, iPod connectivity, streaming music capability and SIRIUS Travel Link for real-time information.

PERFORMANCE:

If the 2011 Avenger has a renewed lease on life, it is due to the improved performance delivered by the all-new 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios. Drivers now get the best of both worlds - V6 horsepower and improved fuel economy. The engine produces a best-inclass 283 horsepower and 260 foot-pounds of torque. The standard 2.4-litre engine produces 173 horsepower and 166 lb.-ft of torque.

To go with that new-found power source, engineers retuned and redesigned virtually every part of the suspension for 2011. The track is an inch wider, tire width has been increased from 215 to 225 mm and the Avenger has been lowered 12 mm in the front and 6 mm in the rear for a more aggressive stance.

DRIVING/UTILITY:

The first generation Avenger was overshadowed by its big brother the Charger, and the weakling motor didn't help matters. This new Avenger is definitely a big improvement. The restyled bodywork and Dodge family grille are a good beginning but the most obvious change is the new Pentastar motor. No more frustration when trying to pass slower traffic on the highway or getting away from a stoplight.

Four full-sized adults can easily find comfort in the Avenger and bring their luggage with them. Fuel mileage is a very reasonable 11L/100 km city and 6.8L/100 km highway with the V6 (10.5 and 6.4 respectively with the fourcylinder).

The suspension is now nicely tuned between performance and comfort.

The four-wheel disk brakes will ensure that you can safely slow down for the inevitable construction zones that spring up like dandelions in the spring.

Now that the Avenger is forging its own direction in the Dodgefamily, we will look forward to seeing it continue to develop into the mild-performance sedan that we always hoped for.

Outlook brightens for LED light bulbs
You might have started to see some odd-looking -- and expensive -- light bulbs show up at your local home improvement store.Compact fluorescent lights have solved LED lighting supplier many of the problems associated with traditional filament light bulbs.

“We’re proud of our village,” said Village Chairman Bob Biram. “As one of our students said, ‘we’re in the middle of nowhere; now we are in the middle of everywhere.’”

Each decade after tabulating the decennial count, the Census Bureau calculates the mean center of population for the country. The national center of population is determined as the place where an imaginary, flat, weightless and rigid map of the United States would balance if all 308,745,538 residents counted were of identical weight.

“The distance between the centers of population, decade by decade, varies depending on how the population has changed, reflecting the addition of territories and the movement of people,” said Census Bureau Director Robert Groves, who spoke at the event.

Since 1790, the center of population has moved in a westerly direction, with a more pronounced southerly pattern in the past few decades. The first center was near Chestertown, Md.

Since 1960, the National Geodetic Survey has monumented the center with survey marks. This decade’s mark will be represented by a block of Missouri red granite.

Irving, Texas, Dedicates Solar-Powered Streetlights

With the dedication of 170 newly installed solar-powered Light Emitting Diode (LED) streetlights, Irving, Texas, is now home to the longest corridor in the state powered by solar LED lights.

A multimillion dollar grant enabled the city to install the streetlights on Irving Boulevard from State Highway 183 to Loop 12.

“Implementing solar streetlights saves taxpayers in energy and maintenance costs. The project also enhances Irving Boulevard,” said City Manager Tommy Gonzalez.

Previous lighting fixtures used overhead and underground wiring. By converting to solar power, the city is reducing enough emissions to equal the planting of 76 acres of trees per year.

“Irving is lighting the path for all cities by implementing cost-efficient energy conservation initiatives,” said Councilman Roy Santoscoy. “We are leading the way on renewable energy projects.”

In addition to reducing Irving’s carbon footprint, improving air quality and saving money, the newly installed lights will contribute to a safer community by ensuring roadways and sidewalks are well lit. The lights can store up to five days of power to guarantee uninterrupted service during inclement weather.

Boston Surveys Elderly Residents

To measure the health conditions and concerns of the city’s most vulnerable elderly, Boston has surveyed 70-plus-year-old seniors living independently at or near the poverty line in the three neighborhoods with the highest percentage of low-income elderly.

“The information gathered through this project will be a valuable tool as we work to support Boston’s elderly residents, especially those who are most vulnerable,” said Mayor Thomas M. Menino. “Our efforts can better address the issues that are most important to the elderly community and provide them with the support they need to be happy and healthy.”

The city’s Commission on Affairs for the Elderly recruited 14 youths from the three neighborhoods to help conduct the survey in an effort to bridge the gap between youth and the elderly. Teams comprised of an elderly commission staff member and a Boston Youth Fund volunteer knocked on more than 200 doors and made 1,500 telephone calls for several weeks beginning April 20.

The survey was designed to gather comprehensive information regarding daily living habits, health care, support services, consumer scams and other concerns of seniors. Responses will provide the city with data to examine how it can most effectively meet the needs of Boston’s most vulnerable elders.

Wahlert leaves no doubt

Wahlert leaves no doubt
On the wings of furiously fast Golden Eagles, the Dubuque Wahlert girls soared over the competition at the 2011 Iowa Class 3A state track and field meet.

Going where no Eagles girls track team had gone before, Wahlert flew to the 3A team championship this weekend at Drake Stadium. Winning three state relays titles, setting four new school records and rolling up 96 points, Wahlert left runner-up Davenport Assumption (64) way behind in its rearview mirror.

"This is a great summation of what our season has been," Eagles coach Tim Berning said.

Wahlert will welcome home its latest state champions today with a 1 p.m. celebration ceremony in Wahlert Gym.

"It's something we wanted to do for our school," senior sprinter Michelle Goedken said, "not just for ourselves."

They did it in style, but skipped the drama. The Eagles mathematically clinched the meet in the first event of Championship Saturday. "I wanted as many people on our team to feel the same way, because it's an awesome feeling," Janecke said.

It has been a banner year for Wahlert running teams, who are keeping the makers of the school's title banners busy. The Golden Eagles boys and girls cross country teams swept the 3A state titles last fall. For Wahlert's newest state champion, this is going to take a while to sink in.

"Our coaches always say if you don't finish, you might not get there," Goedken said. "For me, it's about team points. I'm glad I did really well, but I scored points for my team and I'm excited."

The 4x100 relay crew of Larson, Kramer, Roselyn Hancock and Smith booked a silver medal performance in 50.01 seconds. The 4x400 team of Goedken, Tessa Leytem, Betsy Duehr and the Grand Valley State-bound Janecke closed the meet with a silver medal run of 3:58.21.

2011 GP2: Marussia Driver Lukashevich Scores Best Result In Spain
Marussia Motors development driver Ivan Lukashevich scored his best GP3 Series result with a 12th-place finish in the second race of the weekend at Circuit de Catalunya, the highlight of an otherwise difficult race for Status Grand Prix after a sequence of incidents off the startline. The U600 works with Sprint's SmartView マジコン connection manager for Windows XP and above, and for Macs running OSX 10.5 and above.

As the lights went off the start the 16-lap race, Nico Muller stalled his Jenzer Motorsport car and was stranded as the 30-car field poured past. Status GP driver Antonio Felix da Costa had to take dramatic avoiding action to miss the static car, but his team-mate Alexander Sims did not fare as well. They are extremely energy efficient and environmentally friendly (and are, in fact, more environmentally friendly had to swerve to miss another car that was jinking around Muller’s vehicle, had nowhere to go, and the Briton hit the pitwall and retired immediately.

The accident led to a Safety Car period for four laps. Lukashevich had got away well from 17th on the grid, avoided the confusion and slotted into 14th position, but Felix da Costa had been shuffled down from 12th to 22nd in the melee. At the re-start, Lukashevich maintained his position, and then proceeded to lap quickly and consistently for the duration of the race, fending off RSC Mucke driver Michael Christensen throughout. Portugal’s Felix da Costa was shuffled down a couple of places at the re-start, but fought back in spectacular fashion. He passed three cars in one corner on lap five, and the next time round picked off two more. But with overtaking notoriously difficult at the Catalan track, Felix da Costa spent the balance of the race trying to pass Luciano Bacheta, and was finally classified 16th.

LED bulb makers target 100-watt brightness

LED bulb makers target 100-watt brightness
With a federal lighting efficiency mandate looming,These lights are adopted by the various security lightbright agencies as these are the best lights to use with a security camera or a security device. lighting companies are developing LED bulbs designed to replace 100-watt incandescent lights.

Osram Sylvania today showed off a prototype of an LED bulb that gives off 1,500 lumens--as much light as a 100-watt incandescent--and consumes 14 watts. It also said that its 75-watt equivalent will be available in July.

Another company,Nonetheless, the greater pricey manufacturer products ledonsale certainly are well around the job, seem great and may deliver very amazing cost savings. The particular demise with the incandescent bulb bluebright continues calmly yet non-stop and in less as compared to any year or two today the sole goods stocked in stores is going to be lower electricity bulbs, Switch Lighting, today announced its own 100-watt equivalent which it said produces 1,700 lumens of white light and will be available in the fourth quarter, according to a representative. A version with a warmer light is due in mid to late 2012.

The announcements were made in conjunction with the LightFair lighting conference, where a number of new efficient LED lighting products are being introduced. It pays to go to professionals with bestlight a proven track record in LED lighting, a vast selection of excellent quality products from various vendors that live up to their label, and a history of successfully completed projects.

Osram Sylvania said its dimmable 100-watt equivalent will come in the A19 shape and have a color temperature of 2700, similar to an incandescent bulb. The color rendering index, a measure of light quality, will be over 80 and the bulb is rated to last 25,000 hours, or 25 times more than incandescent bulbs.

It has a shape meant to disperse light evenly to make it suitable for many uses, such as desk lamps or overhead lights. The company didn't announce pricing but its current general-purpose LED bulb, a 60-watt equivalent, costs about $40.

Switch Lighting, a venture capital-backed start-up based in San Jose, Calif., has an unusual design to ensure even light and long life. The small coin-size LED light sources are placed around the edge of the bulb, rather than at a single point.

It also has an internal cooling system where liquid circulates through the bulb to ensure long life and maximum brightness. The company plans to have its first products available this fall, starting at under $20 for a 40-watt equivalent. Switch Lighting also said the bulbs can be returned and recycled.

Lighting manufacturers are ratcheting up light quality and brightness to make LED lighting an attractive alternative to incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs. A federal law signed in 2007 sets efficiency levels for lights which 100-watt incandescent bulbs will not be able to meet.

Philips yesterday announced that its EnduraLED A21, which gives off as much light as a 75-watt incandescent, will be available in the fourth quarter for about $40.

LED specialist Lighting Sciences Group, whose bulbs are sold at Home Depot, is showing a prototype of a 100-watt equivalent bulb that seeks to address overheating with an active cooling system that moves air over the LED chips within the bulb, according to a representative. It has the same look as its 60-watt equivalent which is coming to market in the U.S. now.

LED bulbs need to have some sort of heat sink, often in the shape of aluminum fins below the LED lights sources, to give off full light and ensure the expected lifespan of the products.

Android meets LED bulbs in Google smart-home push

Android meets LED bulbs in Google smart-home push

By the end of this year, people will be able to buy an LED light bulb controllable from an Android device,The retrofit process itself can range from a simple count of existing lamps to a brightshine very detailed energy survey, which includes collecting information from your existing lighting, part of Google's move into home automation.

At the Google I/O conference today,An other advantage of using bluecrystal these bulbs is that they can also work in very cold weather which various other lights are unable to do. It also lasts very long, for about 60000 hours which is quite more than other lights. These are also used as art light as well, it is because crystal these lights did not emit any harmful rays and the bluish color of LED lights makes a painting look very different from others and makes them attractive for the viewers. Google demonstrated how Android devices,Although police doesn't like it very much but one thing is certain, that your car will certainly stand out from the rest lightonsale vehicles on the road You don't have to make something "hardcore". including tablets and smartphones, can act as a hub for controlling multiple devices in the home, including lighting, appliances, thermostats, and music.

The demo at Google I/O was of a person playing a shooting video game with the lights turning on and off as shots were fired, said Eric Holland, the director of electrical engineering at Lighting Sciences Group.

"Lighting is very visible and prevalent so it made sense for it to be first foray for the platform," Holland said. "Every one of the lights has a radio integrated inside the lamp so there's no additional equipment."

Many companies are building home automation systems built around connected objects, which give people a way to set up schedules around lighting and heating/cooling. People can also turn plugged-in items on and off from a central point,This is also known as your return on investment ledbright or ROI. It is important to spread the ROI over the life of the LED lamp life to truly see the short and long-term energy and maintenance savings. such as a tablet or small dashboard.

Lehman gets green light on $144 million NY tax bill settlement

Lehman gets green light on $144 million NY tax bill settlement
Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc's $144 million settlement with the state of New York over back taxes was approved by a bankruptcy judge on Wednesday.

The payment will settle claims that initially amounted to $1.17 billion for alleged underpayments between 1992 and 2008. The accord was approved by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge James Peck at a hearing in Manhattan.

While the settlement garnered support from the Lehman creditors' committee and court-appointed trustee James Giddens, bondholders were lukewarm.

Led by hedge fund Paulson & Co, bondholders filed court papers last week arguing that Lehman's total tax liability -- roughly $2 billion -- should be split fairly among its subsidiaries.

Under the current structure, 75 percent of the costs would fall to the holding company, the parent entity to which the bondholders are direct creditors. The bondholders say New York's tax code supports the position that the bills should be split more evenly, and they reserved their right to pose that argument formally later in the case.

An attorney for Lehman said the settlement motion does not address allocation.

"When we make a final determination as to what that allocation should be ...It was quick and light when I used dsttマジコン on a Windows 7 laptop, and gave me no trouble throughout a day of rigorous testing. we will file a notice with the court reflecting what we believe is appropriate," Richard Krasnow, of law firm Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP, told the court.Under efforts of led spotlight boosting the viability of LED luminaires, many companies are expanding high-power selections.

The New York settlement represents $104 million in tax lAlthough this article shows that Cree's led lighting and Philips LED product sales are not equal it is important to note that Philips LED salesiability, $49 million in interest and a $9 million offset for overpayments made by Lehman in 2007.

Lehman, once the fourth-largest U.S. investment bank, filed the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history in September 2008. Its fortunes fell on its exposure to real estate, mortgages and complex debt that plunged in value.

BATTLE OVER PAYBACK

Lehman cannot start paying back creditors until after the court has approved a bankruptcy exit plan. Control over how Lehman's remaining assets will be divided among creditors has become a thorny issue.

The company has proposed a roughly $60 billion payback plan that would allow the Paulson bondholder group, which also includes the California Public Employees' Retirement System and the County of San Mateo, California, to recover 21.4 percent of its roughly $20 billion in claims.

The bondholders have lodged their own proposal that would increase their recovery to 25.4 cents on the dollar.

A third group, which includes Goldman Sachs Group Inc and other creditors of Lehman's derivatives business, has proposed a competing plan lowering bondholders' returns and boosting its own recovery.

Lehman has said it will ultimately face about $322 billion in allowed claims. Roughly $60 billion of that total will be paid back, the company has said.Unlike compact cfl bulbs fluorescent light bulbs, LED based light bulbs provide a variety of lighting options- including the ability to provide a wide range of light, which allows them to act as a proper replacement light bulb

AUCTION FOR MUNI PORTFOLIO

Also on Wednesday, Lehman's derivatives unit, Lehman Brothers Special Financing, received court approval to sell a municipal portfolio guaranteed by Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

The portfolio, held by non-bankrupt Lehman subsidiary 1271 LLC, holds between $375 million and $675 million in swaps designed to protect underlying municipal bond debt instruments, according to court papers filed by Lehman.

Lehman said the sale of the portfolio would help pay back creditors. The judge approved plans to sell the swaps at auction. The investors would see a return on the purchase if Berkshire is forced to make a payout on its guarantee.
