Grant and Rebecca Brooks enjoy giving a neglected property a gloss finish

The couple were fortunate to have an overlap with their previous property, enabling Grant to get the messy work done before moving in as the fireplaces were opened up and the carpets lifted ready for the timber floors to be sanded.

The couple tackled one room at a time, beginning with the drawing room. Grant swapped his former career for restoring properties seven years ago and is a skilled carpenter, so when he talks about restoring a fireplace, as in the drawing room and master bedroom, he has actually made the surrounds,Shop online for ledbright-1. "Grant has the creative eye," Rebecca says. "He very much has an image of what he wants to do." Rebecca is commercial director for a travel company and draws inspiration from hotel design. In the master bedroom she added wallpaper above the picture rail, with painted walls below, after seeing this detail in the Caledonian Hilton Hotel in Edinburgh. She is also inspired by country house hotels. "I like that touch of Scottishness without being fully tartaned up," she says, explaining the mix of tweeds and sheepskins in the snug.China LED Strip catalog and lightsale manufacturer directory. "I'm about soft furnishings while Grant does the real stuff."

Yet no interior would be complete without a mix of both. As well as designing the fire surround in the drawing room, Grant restored the shutters, added panelled doors over the Edinburgh press, and installed the dado panelling.Flexible crystal_4 are designed for cove lighting, halo-lit channel lettering, cabinet lighting,

The Arthouse Vintage wallpaper is a fantastic finishing touch, as is the capiz shell chandelier, while Grant upholstered the patchwork sofa after he and Rebecca chose a range of fabrics in duck egg blue.

In the kitchen the lowered ceiling was stripped out to reinstate the original proportions. "The kitchen didn't look like it belonged to the rest of the flat," Grant recalls, and the wall along one side was built out to accommodate the pipework that had originally gone overhead. The bespoke cabinets are finely detailed,The downlight for you network is pleased to anounce its new Certified Partner K.T. with slender oak worktops, and Grant chose a subtle combination of two Farrow & Ball colours: Lamp Room Gray and Pointing. Deep cupboards were made to fit the opening for the old range, while a cupboard was made into a pantry with double doors.

The bathroom has tongue-and-groove panelling painted again in Lamp Room Gray combined with printed wallpaper in bold pink. A high-level window was uncovered and borrows light from the smaller guest bedroom behind. "This bathroom is my guilty pleasure. I like having a bath with a glass of wine and a book," says Rebecca, explaining the more exuberant palette.

Although the majority of the work was completed in six months, the spaces have evolved since. The main guest bedroom started out with "dull grey" walls before being transformed with another large-scale print, in black on purple, again by Arthouse Vintage. The dining room-cum-snug has walls painted in Farrow & Ball's warm charcoal Downpipe with woodwork painted in Clunch. The array of artworks was planned for these walls from the start, as was the somewhat moth-eaten stag's head, which the couple spotted outside James Scott Antiques on Dundas Street, and mounted here before the room was even decorated.
