"We always get some calls in January from people who think their costs have been driven up by holiday lights," said Pat Hammond, a spokeswoman for Houston-based Reliant Energy. "But the increased usage in December can almost always be attributed to heating, especially if customers have electric heating. We don't see a big uptick that we would attribute to holiday lights."
