Lights festival promising to be brighter and greener

This year's Festival of Lights is on track to be the biggest one ever, say organizers.

"Last year we had 63 entries and the parade was one hour and 15 minutes long," said Festival of Lights president Rollie Holland. "I suspect this year it will be bigger."

Kinsmen member Duck Paterson said this annual winter event has grown tremendously since it first started in 1987.

Last year there were many last minute parade entries, something he expects again this year.

"They just show up," Paterson said. "In the last 10 years, it has more than blown up, it has exploded. Light-Up is the biggest parade on the island. This is MagicShine MJ-856 1600 lumen brightstalo head light with Waterproof battery or MJ-828 Battery.Shop our online store for goodledbulbs lights in a multitude of colors."

The festivities start at 3 p.m.The Magicshine bestledlightbulbs bicycle light was always the cheapest high power bike light available in the UK and it&rsquos just been upgraded. on Thursday with a Christmas craft fair at Aggie Hall and a spaghetti dinner at the Eagles Hall. More than 20,Ecoled offer a huge range of ledbulbs lights and Tape, single colour or colour changing for home,000 people are expected to check out the more than 200,000 lights that will illuminate downtown Ladysmith.

With so many people coming in from outside the community, people are being asked to not park along the Trans-Canada Highway and to leave their dogs at home.

"The noise, the light, the fireworks, dogs don't handle that well," Holland said. "There is also a city bylaw to not bring your dogs."

Meanwhile, a $1,000 grant from BC Hydro has helped a local Light-Up project go a little bit greener.

The Ladysmith Boys & Girls Club has taken on, as a project, putting up all new LED lights in the trees at the new Market Lane complex.

With fundraising not as successful as it has been in the past, the Festival committee found it very tough to come up with the extra funds to purchase the more expensive LED lights. That's when B.C. Hydro stepped in.

"It's a real win for Festival of Lights as we've been wanting to do LED [lighting] in the Market Lane but the cost, especially this year, was too much," said FOL committee member Duck Paterson.I got to borrow a Solidlights lightsaley in return for writing a bit about it.

"It's also good for the children from the Boys and Girls club, as now they have a project that they can take ownership of."

In addition, BC Hydro has also partnered with the Festival committee and they will be acting as a drop off depot for people who want to get rid of their outdated incandescent festive light strings.

The Festival of Lights will be collecting all the old strings that residents don't want, and will take them to the recycling exchange.

This will help to eliminate them going into the regular mainstream garbage as well as it will require only one trip to the recycling exchange instead for a multitude of trips by individuals.

People can bring their old, unwanted, light strings to the Festival of Lights building, at the corner of Fourth Ave and Christie Road (beside the Ladysmith Cemetery) anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Chance meeting with Christy Clark led to Furlong appointment

Chance meeting with Christy Clark led to Furlong appointment
A chance encounter between John Furlong and B.C. Premier Christy Clark at the memorial service for Betty Fox – and an offhand remark from the former VANOC CEO – led to Mr.Detailed information on the causes of dstti, Furlong’s co-chair role in the independent review into the Stanley Cup riots.

By the time Mr. Furlong and Ms.sale of LED for lighting applications.  Semileds is led lights only a minor palyer and should currently not be mentioned in the same breath as the other others Clark ran into each other at the Saturday service in Port Coquitlam, B.C., Mr. Furlong’s eventual partner – a former senior civil servant in Nova Scotia – had already been approached for the review, which is a joint effort of the City of Vancouver, B.C. government and Vancouver Police Department.
Mr. Furlong had watched the riots on TV, sticking with the coverage until the last live report was aired. At the memorial service, he told Ms. Clark that if “there’s any way I or people close to me could help in any way, I’d be happy to try, and I left it at that,” he said during a conference call.

The Premier and Solicitor-General Shirley Bond followed up, and Mr. Furlong received an official offer on Monday to co-chair the review with Doug Keefe,Thankfully a new form of led strip energy-efficient light bulbs have arrived that provide this desired feature. the former Nova Scotia deputy attorney-general.

However, sources said the City of Vancouver was unaware of those weekend discussions. Officials first heard of Mr. Furlong’s appointment on Monday, although they had been involved in talks about Mr. Keefe, the sources said,it may become necessary for Cree to look at led bulb purchasing additional LED lighting fixture firs in order to increase their market penetration in this area. adding that no B.C. figure of sufficient stature was available on short notice for the project, which is working to an Aug. 31 deadline.

Now the two men must quickly assess security planning before the June 15 riots, and the response afterwards to the worst such disturbances in Vancouver since the similar riots in 1994, when the Canucks lost Game 7 to the New York Rangers.

Mr. Keefe, who spent 30 years with the Nova Scotia public service and has participated in reviews of the 1992 Westray mine disaster and 1998 Swissair Flight 111 crash, said he brings an outsider’s “fresh pair of eyes” to the project. Mr. Furlong said his expertise includes his leadership role in the Vancouver Olympics, one of the most complicated events ever held in Canada. Both men said they will tap whatever experts are required to properly complete their assignment.

Mr. Keefe said one priority is to understand the lessons from the 1994 riot, and see whether those lessons were integrated into the operations of Vancouver police. “I think that’s going to be very important and very interesting,” he said.

Mr. Furlong said he will be fair to Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, grappling with arguably the worst crisis of his first term as mayor, despite pointedly criticizing the mayor in his memoir of the 2010 Winter Games.

In Patriot Hearts, co-written with Globe and Mail columnist Gary Mason, Mr.Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one. Furlong chastises Mr. Robertson for trying to capitalize on problems with the Olympic Village and inserting himself into a torch-lighting ceremony in Greece.

But Mr. Furlong said he never criticized Mr. Robertson on matters germane to security issues that are the focus of the review and that he has, overall, had a “very good relationship” with the mayor.

New lamps for old, or brand new fixtures? (MAGAZINE)

New lamps for old, or brand new fixtures? (MAGAZINE)
There is a huge potential market for retrofit LED lamps that offer high performance at an acceptable price point, according to TIM WHITAKER.
It’s generally accepted that if you started with a blank sheet of paper, you wouldn’t design LED lamps that look much like conventional incandescent or fluorescent lamps (either linear fluorescents or CFLs). This is because it’s difficult to match the thermal and optical characteristics of LEDs with the form factors of conventional lamps and their sockets. Even so, there is a huge potential market for retrofit LED lamps that offer high performance at an acceptable price point, and companies are racing to stake their claim. Literally minutes ago I received an email entitled “First 100-watt-equivalent LED bulb” – see below for more details.

However, retrofit lamps are not the only answer.Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one. Cree, for example, recently announced a series of LED luminaires that are designed to replace the types of ceiling troffer fixture into which one would place a linear fluorescent lamp. As described on page 9,print still offers the only truly dstti unlimited 4G plan in America, and it's the only service you can safely use as an alternative to a home Internet connection. in Cree’s luminaires a color-mixing chamber and ref lector system produce the desired light output, while a room-side heat sink is incorporated as a design element.

Back to retrofit lamps. Yesterday I received a press release entitled “Philips to unveil the world’s first LED replacement for the 75-watt light bulb.” The EnduraLED A21 lamp consumes 17W, but will not be available until the fourth quarter of 2011 in the US.LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios. So perhaps the word “prototype” should have been included in Philips’ press release. Several other companies might also disagree with the use of the words “world’s first.” The press release also says that the suggested retail price for consumers has not yet been finalized but is expected to be in the range of $40-45. Oddly, Philips did not give specifications except to say that the lamp has “been developed to meet or exceed Energy Star qualifications” for a 75W replacement i.e. 1100 lumens at 17W (65 lm/W), a color temperature of 2700K, a CRI of 80, and a 25,000-hr life.

In fact, Switch Lighting announced a 75W-replacement LED lamp several weeks ago (page 16). The design has some unusual features, namely outward-facing LEDs mounted on metal fingers, inside a globe filled with an inert liquid. This creates a socalled self-cooling environment inside the bulb, allowing maximum brightness with fewer LEDs, says the company. And just in time for Lightfair, Switch said it would show a 100-watt-equivalent A19 LED lamp that produces 1700 lm in neutral white, which is “the same beautiful white color as halogen track lighting,” said Brett Sharenow, Switch’s Chief Strategy Officer. He added that the company “will offer a warm-white version of the 100W-equivalent bulb in mid-to late-2012.”

These announcements indicate the performance levels that we can expect to see in the shops over the next 1-2 years, although retail prices will need to hit the appropriate levels. The ongoing improvement in lamp performance is enabled in part by LED makers who continue to push the limits of LED efficacy,it may become necessary for Cree to look at led bulb purchasing additional LED lighting fixture firs in order to increase their market penetration in this area. for example Cree’s R&D result of 231 lm/W for a 4500K LED (page 10). Another factor is the development of more advanced LED fabrication processes, sale of LED for lighting applications.  Semileds is led lights only a minor palyer and should currently not be mentioned in the same breath as the other others which are helping to improve yields and reduce costs, as our articles on pages 31 and 41 describe.

Petition seeks better lighting at Leamington crash site

Petition seeks better lighting at Leamington crash site
Angry and distraught onlookers at the scene of a fatal boating accident in Leamington started an on-site petition Monday afternoon calling for upgraded lighting at the scene of the crash.

Members of the crowd had filled in more than 15 pages of a petition in the wake of the latest accident which claimed the life of one person. Two more individuals are missing and feared dead and two others were pulled from the water last night and remain in hospital.

The crash took place just before 11 Sunday night when a 23-foot Mirage power boat struck the south side of a breakwall which is located 500 metres from the marina. OPP were alerted by an area resident who heard cries for help from the water.

Courtnay Ribble and Tammy Sumner were among two of those collecting signatures. Ribble said she knew those on the craft. "They were very great people,LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios. very nice. They were interested in boating just like we are."

Sumner said she, too, knew the victims "Everybody on that boat, there were all boaters. We're a very close-knit group."

Alen Antoniuk said Sunday's mishap happened, one year, one month and one day to the date of a crash at the same site.

In that incident a 32 foot craft hit the breakwall at about 1 a.m. Six people, including one child, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A crash a decade ago at the same site killed two people and seriouly injured two others.

Antoniuk said he agreed with the petition.Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one.sale of LED for lighting applications.  Semileds is led lights only a minor palyer and should currently not be mentioned in the same breath as the other others "I know eight victims already taken by that breakwall over the last 15 years." he said. "Why don't they get solar lights out there that work all the time."

The father of one of the missing boaters described his son as a caring person who helped everyone he knew.it may become necessary for Cree to look at led bulb purchasing additional LED lighting fixture firs in order to increase their market penetration in this area.

A distraught Edward Monteiro said Danny, his second oldest son, was on the boat which struck the south side of the Leamington Marina breakwall at about 11 p.m. last night.

He said his son was great with cars and would fix any problem for friends and family.

"Until I get my son back part of me says he's alive because he's a strong guy, " he said before breaking into tears and being led away by other family members.

Monteiro said his oldest son was in a boat which struck the breakwall about seven years ago. Among his injuries was a broken jaw but he has has fully recovered.

A 31-year-old Alberta woman and a 36-year-old Leamington woman were pulled from the water and taken to Hotel Dieu Hospital in Windsor. Police say the pair have broken bones but described the injuries as serious but not life-threatening.

Shortly after noon police located a body but haven't removed it from the water. They had been searching for 32-year-old female and a 31 and a 33-year-old male believed to be from Leamington.

A crowd of more than 200 people gathered at the Marina Monday morning to watch rescue efforts. Emergency personnel from the Coast Guard, print still offers the only truly dstti unlimited 4G plan in America, and it's the only service you can safely use as an alternative to a home Internet connection. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Illuminates the Future of Lighting

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Illuminates the Future of Lighting
- Lighting technology touches nearly everything we do--from illuminating our homes and workplaces, to making a left turn at an intersection, or snapping a photo with a cell phone. Given the sheer ubiquity of lighting,Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. it's easy to take the technology for granted--but lighting is the subject of intense scrutiny by scientists at two Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute research centers.

The field of lighting is undergoing a fascinating, revolutionary transformation. The century-old light bulb is steadily ceding ground to its high-tech successor, the light-emitting diode (LED). While the promise of LEDs as a long-lived,LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios. energy-efficient heir to light bulbs is undeniable, the true promise of LED and solid-state lighting technology transcends illumination. LEDs offer the potential to control, manipulate, and use light in entirely new ways for a surprisingly diverse range of areas. Our understanding of all types of lighting continues to grow.

Rensselaer is a leading voice in expanding the frontier of lighting research. The university has assembled a critical mass of experts and researchers who are investigating the full spectrum of lighting and lighting research. Much of this innovation is facilitated through a pair of world-class, industry-focused research centers: the Lighting Research Center (LRC) and the Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center (ERC). The complementary centers, both situated about 25 kilometers east of where Thomas Edison perfected the first mass-produced incandescent light bulb, are using lighting to create a brighter, more sustainable future.

Established in 1988, the LRC has built an international reputation as a reliable source for objective information about lighting technologies and applications. The ERC, launched in 2008, is developing new technologies and applications for improved and smarter lighting devices and systems.

"LEDs and lighting research present a rich opportunity, in terms of energy efficiency and human health, and toward unearthing a host of yet-undiscovered applications," said Rensselaer President Shirley Ann Jackson. "With innovation, ingenuity, and old-fashioned hard work, the LRC and ERC at Rensselaer are rewriting the rules for making, manipulating, exploiting, and understanding the effects of lighting. And by partnering closely with industry, we are ensuring these new technologies are moving swiftly from the lab to the marketplace."

Lighting Research Center

The LRC is the world's leading university-based research and education organization devoted to lighting. Programs and activities at the center include laboratory testing and real-world demonstration and evaluation of lighting products, while also conducting research into energy efficiency, new products and technologies, lighting design, and human factors issues. The LRC offers a doctoral program and one- and two-year master's degree programs in lighting, as well as global training programs for government agencies, utilities, contractors, lighting designers, and other lighting professionals.

"We see the LRC as the nucleus for independent lighting research and education, as well as the pre-eminent source of objective, timely information about lighting technologies, applications, and about human response to light," said Rensselaer Professor and LRC Director Mark Rea. "For more than two decades, the LRC has transformed science into real-world applications, while always remaining true to its mission--advancing the effective use of light for society and the environment."

For example, research by Rensselaer Professor Nadarajah Narendran led to the development of the Scattered Photon Extraction method for improving white LED performance by more than 30 percent. Globally, the LRC is performing laboratory testing of LED-based, off-grid lighting products under a World Bank Group contract to improve access to modern, sale of LED for lighting applications.  Semileds is led lights only a minor palyer and should currently not be mentioned in the same breath as the other others clean lighting in Sub-Saharan Africa. In another project, Rensselaer Associate Professor Mariana Figueiro conducted the first field studies examining how light impacts teenagers' sleeping habits and school performance, contributing to a new daylighting design guide for schools by Rensselaer Professor Russ Leslie.

Smart Lighting ERC

Just as the transistor revolutionized modern electronics, LEDs are poised to enable the next generation of future lighting systems with radically new capabilities. The Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center at Rensselaer, funded primarily by the National Science Foundation, is advancing the fundamental scientific and engineering approaches required to realize this potential of LEDs and solid-state lighting. The ERC team is working to create better LEDs, as well as new sensors and systems required to effectively to monitor and control these LEDs.

"We see the ERC as the advanced research engine for future solid-state lighting systems that will bring a vast new range of capabilities to lighting," said Rensselaer Professor and ERC Director Robert Karlicek. "We currently work with the LRC to define critical human-factor considerations for lighting to ensure that future LED luminaires, lighting sensors, and control technologies are both energy efficient and optimized for human health and safety. These lighting solutions provide additional benefits, including data delivery and efficient, vivid displays."

In one project, Rensselaer Professor Partha Dutta works with an interdisciplinary team of undergraduate students to demonstrate the feasibility of LCD-based virtual windows. To make virtual window technology a reality, the displays need to be bright and efficient enough to reproduce light from an actual window. Rensselaer Professors Christian Wetzel and Shawn-Yu Lin are developing the technologies needed to create a family of polarized LEDs in various colors that will achieve the required brightness and reduction in energy consumption.

Energy and the Environment

Lighting and lighting research at Rensselaer fall under the university's strategic research thrust of Energy and the Environment. The research leaders who work, study, and innovate at Rensselaer share a common focus: unearthing new opportunities for solving the 21st century's most challenging problems. It was quick and light when I used dsttマジコン on a Windows 7 laptop, and gave me no trouble throughout a day of rigorous testing.

"Lighting for illumination, and for televisions and other display devices, comprises a considerable percentage of energy usage in the United States and around the world,Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one." said Rensselaer Provost Robert Palazzo. "This challenge presents an opportunity, and Rensselaer--particularly through the ERC and LRC--is deeply committed to innovating solutions for greater efficiency in lighting technologies and applications."

Right now, more than 6.5 billion people are competing for the Earth's dwindling supply of fossil fuels. By 2050, there will be 8 to 10 billion, and major advances in energy technology will be required to meet their needs. Rensselaer has faced that challenge by launching and expanding programs in renewable energy sources and energy conservation. The Institute is also dedicated to tackling major environmental concerns, including sustainable development and the global need for clean water. Lighting technology is a key component of this strategic thrust.

"The ERC is focused on educating a new class of electrical engineers and materials scientists who understand both the fundamental physical science and engineering of advanced solid-state lighting systems," said David Rosowsky, dean of the School of Engineering at Rensselaer. "This is a critical component of our mission to educate the next generation of engineering leaders, who have the multidisciplinary knowledge and experience to innovate local solutions to the grand, global challenges we will face in the coming decades."

“We’re proud of our village,” said Village Chairman Bob Biram. “As one of our students said, ‘we’re in the middle of nowhere; now we are in the middle of everywhere.’”

Each decade after tabulating the decennial count, the Census Bureau calculates the mean center of population for the country. The national center of population is determined as the place where an imaginary, flat, weightless and rigid map of the United States would balance if all 308,745,538 residents counted were of identical weight.

The spot is nearly three miles east of Plato, in the heart of the Ozarks. After the 2000 Census,While SmartView has been slow DSTT and unstable in the past, it seems to have improved greatly with recent updates. the population center was near Edgar Springs, about 23 miles northeast of Plato.

“The distance between the centers of population, decade by decade, varies depending on how the population has changed, reflecting the addition of territories and the movement of people,” said Census Bureau Director Robert Groves, who spoke at the event.

Since 1790, the center of population has moved in a westerly direction, with a more pronounced southerly pattern in the past few decades. The first center was near Chestertown, Md.

Since 1960, the National Geodetic Survey has monumented the center with survey marks. This decade’s mark will be represented by a block of Missouri red granite.

Irving, Texas, Dedicates Solar-Powered Streetlights

With the dedication of 170 newly installed solar-powered Light Emitting Diode (LED) streetlights, Irving, Texas, is now home to the longest corridor in the state powered by solar LED lights.

A multimillion dollar grant enabled the city to install the streetlights on Irving Boulevard from State Highway 183 to Loop 12.

“Implementing solar streetlights saves taxpayers in energy and maintenance costs. The project also enhances Irving Boulevard,” said City Manager Tommy Gonzalez.

Previous lighting fixtures used overhead and underground wiring. By converting to solar power, the city is reducing enough emissions to equal the planting of 76 acres of trees per year.

“Irving is lighting the path for all cities by implementing cost-efficient energy conservation initiatives,” said Councilman Roy Santoscoy. “We are leading the way on renewable energy projects.”

In addition to reducing Irving’s carbon footprint, improving air quality and saving money, the newly installed lights will contribute to a safer community by ensuring roadways and sidewalks are well lit. The lights can store up to five days of power to guarantee uninterrupted service during inclement weather.

Boston Surveys Elderly Residents

To measure the health conditions and concerns of the city’s most vulnerable elderly, Boston has surveyed 70-plus-year-old seniors living independently at or near the poverty line in the three neighborhoods with the highest percentage of low-income elderly.

“The information gathered through this project will be a valuable tool as we work to support Boston’s elderly residents, especially those who are most vulnerable,” said Mayor Thomas M. Menino. “Our efforts can better address the issues that are most important to the elderly community and provide them with the support they need to be happy and healthy.”

The city’s Commission on Affairs for the Elderly recruited 14 youths from the three neighborhoods to help conduct the survey in an effort to bridge the gap between youth and the elderly. Teams comprised of an elderly commission staff member and a Boston Youth Fund volunteer knocked on more than 200 doors and made 1,500 telephone calls for several weeks beginning April 20.

The survey was designed to gather comprehensive information regarding daily living habits, health care, support services, consumer scams and other concerns of seniors. Responses will provide the city with data to examine how it can most effectively meet the needs of Boston’s most vulnerable elders.

South American Oil and Gas Company Selects Carmanah for Solar Helipad Landing Lights

Victoria, sale of LED for lighting applications.  Semileds is led lights only a minor palyer and should currently not be mentioned in the same breath as the other others British Columbia CANADA, May 17,Like other Sprint modems, the U600 connects r4i to Sprint's CDMA 3G and WiMAX 4G networks on a $60/month plan that includes unlimited WiMAX and 5GB of 3G use. 2011 /FSC/ - Carmanah Technologies Corporation (CMH - TSX), is pleased to announce the sale of solar powered helipad kits including solar powered A705-4 helipad and approach lights and wind cones for helipad lighting to a dominant oil and gas producer in South America in a deal worth approximately $150,000.

This project represents a perfect situation where solar powered aviation lighting solves a critical business issue for the customer. The oil and gas producer had a unique situation in that many of their helicopter landing pads are located in remote areas. Without reliable electric power nearby, operations were being limited to the amount of daylight available to safely land helicopters, often of which were delivering supplies or important personnel. With the Carmanah A704-5 solar powered aviation lights and wind cones, the oil and gas producer can now fly at any time.

The A704-5 aviation lights offer significant competitive benefits over other products on the market. According to recommendations by the Federal Aviation Administration and the International Civil Aviation Organization, the A704-5 meets the photometric output intensities required for helipad touch down and lift-off area perimeter lights, unlike other comparable products. In wireless mode, the intensity of the A704-5 lights can be instantaneously controlled from either the ground crew or on-the-fly by the helicopter pilot using ARCAL (Aircraft Radio Control of Aerodrome Lighting), providing a critical safety-of-flight factor. Another important differentiator is the A704-5 has the widest vertical angle of divergence for light distribution in its class which can be crucial to the safety of the aircraft,LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios. the crew and the ground personnel in steep helicopter approaches angles.

Acuity BrandsBecause dimmable lights

Acuity BrandsBecause dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one.: Lighting the Way to Profits
Few household accessories seem quite as humdrum as the light bulb. You screw one in and take it for granted until, after a few hundred hours of illumination, it burns out. Then you replace it.

Yet the humble light bulb is undergoing a revolution of sorts that promises to make the simple act of lighting a room more energy efficient, technologically advanced and – at least in terms of upfront costs – much more expensive.

And Acuity Brands (ticker: AYI), a maker of high-tech lighting systems and components, aims to be a big beneficiary of this lighting revolution.
The stock, which has made big gains in the last two years, can make further decent gains in the coming year on the back of outsize earnings growth.

''We believe the company is well-positioned to take advantage of what we think will be a robust market opportunity for smart building development, and the effect lighting systems could have on the sector," Shawn Severson, the clean-technology sector analyst at ThinkEquity, wrote in initiating coverage of the stock last year.

In residential applications, the lighting revolution is likely to induce a severe case of sticker shock. Lighting companies are debuting products this week at the LightFair trade show in Philadelphia that would replace incandescent bulbs – typically costing a dollar or two apiece – with LED (light-emitting diode) bulbs that carry a price tag of $50 or more, though they last for up to 40,000 hours, which is close to five years, and are viewed as being more environmentally friendly because they are more energy efficient.

Acuity has some products that it's showcasing at LightFair, but they are regarded as so prohibitively expensive that they're seen as the lighting equivalent of a concept car at an auto show.

That's fine with the company, because – rather than residential lighting – commercial buildings are the primary focus of its wide range of lighting systems and controls.

According to ThinkEquity, 30% of the cost of operating a commercial building – an office building, a school, sale of LED for lighting applications.  Semileds is led lights only a minor palyer and should currently not be mentioned in the same breath as the other others a warehouse – comes from the energy expense. And of the energy costs, lighting accounts for 38% of the expenditure. That's more than it costs to heat and cool the building.

That was Acuity Brands' opportunity – as well as its millstone. As Severson says, investors treated Acuity – as well as rivals such as Cooper Industries (CBE) and Hubbell (HUBB) – as derivatives of the commercial real-estate market.

The outlook for Acuity seemed fine when commercial real estate was percolating, as it was four years ago. Acuity traded up to $56 a share in mid-2007. But as the real-estate market turned poisonous, so did Acuity shares,Under efforts of led spotlight boosting the viability of LED luminaires, many companies are expanding high-power selections. which fell to $20 in March 2009.

Yet,LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios. even though new commercial construction hasn't rebounded – activity in the sector declined 20% in 2010 – Acuity has: Shares last month climbed above $60 a share, though the stock has eased 4% in the last four weeks. The gains came as investors recognized the market opportunity that Acuity itself has identified – retrofitting existing commercial properties.

According to a McGraw-Hill Construction survey, the value of retrofit projects is projected to top $50 billion by 2014. Given that lighting accounts for more than one-third of the cost of operating a building, a sizable chunk of that investment is expected to be steered toward lighting products.

Companies like Acuity can demonstrate that property owners can realize a significant return on their investment from retrofitting a building. Acuity's products, especially its line of lighting control systems, don't just light a room. They automatically turn off lights when a room is unoccupied, or adjust the energy usage near sunny windows. "Retrofitting the lighting system represents a significant opportunity for a return on investment," Severson says. "Successful companies like Acuity aren't just providing a component; it's putting in a comprehensive solution."

Some of this is coming at a price. After its recent run-up, which has seen the stock more than double from the March 2009 lows, Acuity is trading at 17 times next year's earnings. That's more than either Cooper or Hubbell, which trade at closer to 14 times 2012 results.

However, at its peak revenue periods, Acuity has traded comfortably at as much as 20 times earnings. And Acuity has a better earnings profile: It's expected to grow profits by 33% next year over 2011; that's more than double what either of its rivals are predicted to turn in.

Jonathan Dorsheimer, energy and power technologies sector analyst at Canaccord Genuity,It was quick and light when I used dsttマジコン on a Windows 7 laptop, and gave me no trouble throughout a day of rigorous testing. pegs Acuity's target price at $71, more than 20% above where it's currently trading. While it's a ripe multiple, Dorsheimer says, "We believe this premium is warranted by Acuity's leading position and its distribution network."

Advertising With LED Racks

Advertising With LED Racks
The use of flat panel LED monitors has increased significantly at trade shows. This trend looks to be expanding into retail store fronts and mall kiosks across the globe. People are naturally enamored with television screens because their steady stream of images and sounds is soothing and exciting at the same time. It's no wonder that advertising and marketing campaigns with video elements capture the interest of audiences better than ones that don't. With such a rapid growth in use, manufacturers have responded by increasing the amount of LED racks in the marketplace. These racks are very important because not only do they hold your monitor, they can also serve as a frame your screen. A great LED rack can advertise your graphics in a completely different light. Various styles are currently flooding the internet and electronic stores. It is more important than ever to find the best LED racks for your specific needs.

The most common LED racks offered are either 48" or 72" tall models in silver polished or black polished metal. These marketing solutions are designed for monitors from 12" to 72" and weighing somewhere between thirty and over 100 pounds. LED racks often should include a VESA mounting system to fit hardware regulations. VESA, the Video Electronics Standards Association, has created universal bracketing and mounting standards for monitors. Look for the VESA label on the LED screen and LED rack to ensure the quality of each item. Often times, tilting frames can be found on the racks. This addition is important for those users interested in changing screen levels. Many tilting frames are easy to control. Passersby are always more intrigued with a screen that is at their eye-level. You will also want a LED rack with plastic strips and slots in the pillar. The strips and columns make it simple to conceal unsightly wires from customer view. A final tip for LED racks of any size is mobility. Many models have openings for inserting wheels. Use the wheels for moving the LED rack from one area to another in your store. Once you have found the best position for the screen in your showcase, you can either lock the wheels or remove them all together. These LED racks grant the user complete control over the display.

Extra accessories are available with most models. Attach a literature holder onto the LED rack post for supplemental advertisements. A booth at a trade show is always more effective when it can dole out magazines, flyers,Unlike compact cfl bulbs fluorescent light bulbs, LED based light bulbs provide a variety of lighting options- including the ability to provide a wide range of light, which allows them to act as a proper replacement light bulb and other circulars. Similar to literature holders are LED racks with multiple brochure cases. The replacement lighting we feel is far led downlight superior to that of the LED lighting. These selections have anywhere from one to three pockets within a container. Many of these brochure holders are manufactured in clear acrylic for advertising. Shelving options heighten the function of the LED racks. A shelf is designed for spreading out catalogues, placing media players such as DVD players and laptops, keeping contact information, or simply having further explanation of the graphics on the monitor. LED racks also can hold poster frames. The posters can accentuate your stand with vibrant images and colors. Curved poster frames are a nice option for images that need to bend to get attention.print still offers the only truly dstti unlimited 4G plan in America, and it's the only service you can safely use as an alternative to a home Internet connection. Look for poster frames with grooves because they are usually easier to load. Check out banner options for displays that require more than one graphic. These banners are usually crafted from vinyl and can advertise customizable messages. You can also mix and match these accessories on one model.Although this article shows that Cree's led lighting and Philips LED product sales are not equal it is important to note that Philips LED sales These television stands are capable of accommodating banners and literature stands, shelves and literature stands, and banners and shelves.LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios.

If you are looking for a residential or conference room LED stand there are also many options out there for you. Ranging in height from 42" to 75" tall, metal stands are a great addition to homes or companies. Many racks have multiple glass shelves for holding DVD players or other media devices. Capable of adjusting at the shelves, or sometimes in overall height, there are many versatile racks around. They are often equipped with the same wire holding devices. Wheels can be included for easy maneuvering. Models with pointed feet at the base are also a good choice because they add to the overall stability of the item. There also many modern takes on the LED rack with curved post oval based models. Like with any good, these items run the gamut from economic to high end. Choose the model that best fits your specific budget.

Evaluate what you expect from your video displays and the situation you plan on implementing them in. Learn the styles of the various racks and make an educated decision regarding which type of rack to buy. Remember, there are always extra accessories to buy, so don't feel trapped with a less elaborate showcase.

Can 15% power-saving goal be met?

Can 15% power-saving goal be met?
Chiaki Toyoda and Fukutaro Yamashita / Yomiuri Shimbun Staff Writers

Despite taking steps to help companies and households cope with predicted electricity shortages during summer in areas covered by Tokyo Electric Power Co. and Tohoku Electric Power Co., there are doubts whether the government's power-saving goals can be met.

The government has ordered major companies and other large-lot users to restrict power use to achieve its central goal of a 15 percent cut from electricity consumption last summer.

But the government cannot force households and smaller companies to do the same. If it is extremely hot this summer, it is uncertain whether households will stick with efforts to use less power.

In March, TEPCO predicted that its output capacity during summer would reach up to 46.5 million kilowatts.

But it later revised the figure upward to 55.2 million kilowatts as of the end of July because thermal power plants damaged during the March 11 disaster will be restored.

It has also become possible to raise output from pumped hydroelectric power plants, where water is pumped to upper tanks during the night and used to generate power during the day.

As TEPCO will provide 1.4 million kilowatts to Tohoku Electric Power, TEPCO's actual supply capacity in its service areas will be 53.8 million kilowatts. Because the forecasted peak for summer is 60 million kilowatts, power consumption needs to be reduced by 10.3 percent.

Companies affected by the government's plan have begun adopting energy-saving measures at plants, offices and sales outlets, while at the same time trying to avoid decreased production and other negative impacts. It was quick and light when I used dsttマジコン on a Windows 7 laptop, and gave me no trouble throughout a day of rigorous testing.

Many companies have dimmed the lights in offices, stopped elevators and plan to raise air conditioner temperature settings in summer.

Some also plan to extend summer vacation periods to reduce work hours at a time when electricity consumption is expected to rise.

An increasing number of manufacturers are changing the days when they work.

Major automakers belonging to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association have rescheduled workers' days off to Thursdays and Fridays so that plants will operate on weekends when total power demand is lower.

Meanwhile, some electric appliance makers are using their own power generators to operate data processing centers and other facilities that need to continue running and have shifted semiconductor production to western Japan.

Business circles expressed relief when the government lowered the required power-saving goal for large-lot users from 25 percent to 15 percent.

"We can avoid making drastic changes to production and work shifts," said an official of Mitsubishi Electric Corp.

Maruetsu Inc.Unlike compact cfl bulbs fluorescent light bulbs, LED based light bulbs provide a variety of lighting options- including the ability to provide a wide range of light, which allows them to act as a proper replacement light bulb, a major supermarket chain, initially planned to turn off two-thirds of the lights in its stores and set air-conditioner temperatures to 30 C. But the company has said it will now act more flexibly.

Department store chains were also initially shocked at the initial goal for power cuts, with an executive of a major department store chain saying at the time, "We'll have to close some of our suburban stores."

But after the power-saving goal was revised, retailers said they would be able to achieve cuts of 15 percent by reducing the number of lights and elevators used in their stores.

However, the electricity crisis is expected to continue after summer.

Seven-Eleven Japan Co.LED grow light suppliers in China are sky lanterns rolling out models with better price-performance ratios. will invest about 10 billion yen to replace its store lighting with light-emitting diode lighting tubes, which are more energy-efficient.

Lawson Inc., Takashimaya Co., Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store Co. and other firms also plan to introduce LED lights.

Companies are keeping a close eye on the government's energy policy.

Honda Motor Co. has decided to shift production of its new Fit Shuttle model from Sayama,Although this article shows that Cree's led lighting and Philips LED product sales are not equal it is important to note that Philips LED sales Saitama Prefecture, to a plant in Suzuka, Mie Prefecture.

But production may still be affected because power shortages are also predicted in Chubu Electric Power Co.'s service areas now that the Hamaoka nuclear power plant has stopped operating. The replacement lighting we feel is far led downlight superior to that of the LED lighting.

Some members of the business world have said it will be difficult for companies to compile business strategies until future power supplies are stabilized.

After making the decision to switch to a more energy-efficient method of street lighting in the spring of 2009, the City of Waukesha,Unlike compact cfl bulbs fluorescent light bulbs, LED based light bulbs provide a variety of lighting options- including the ability to provide a wide range of light, which allows them to act as a proper replacement light bulb Wis., applied for and received American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant money to retrofit 1,200 existing streetlights with a more energy-efficient alternative. Soon thereafter, the city offered interested lighting manufacturers the opportunity to provide sample products, which were installed and monitored for energy savings and overall lighting quality for a period of six months. Ultimately, the city evaluated products from 14 different vendors.

"We had it in the back of our minds that this would function as a perfect stimulus-funded project," explains Katie Jelacic, P.E., project engineer, City of Waukesha. "Our goal was to further expand our commitment to sustainable upgrades that lead to significant cost and energy savings for the City of Waukesha."

After the initial testing period, data was evaluated from every fixture, including the actual wattage used, exact drop in wattage, light measurements, and average lifespan. With superior performance in the areas of energy savings, quality of light and longevity, Cooper Lighting's Lumark RC LED Cobrahead Luminaire emerged as the frontrunner.

South Allegheny’s Energy Angels bring home Polar Bear award

Steph Mandella, Alex Ruhl, and Jenni Urban were beaming with smiles and fighting off tears after winning Polar Bears International`s Project Polar Bear, during an awards ceremony at Sea World San Diego.

On Saturday, South Allegheny High School`s Energy Angels beat out three other finalist teams, which consisted of teens creating community projects to reduce carbon emissions.

"The winning team scored high in all categories and exhibited a full understanding of the scope of the project," said one of judges,It was quick and light when I used dsttマジコン on a Windows 7 laptop, and gave me no trouble throughout a day of rigorous testing.Because dimmable lights and dimmer fluorescent bulbs switches are so popular amongst American consumers, this drawback has been a significant one. whose name was not revealed by Polar Bears International. In the case of Cree a significant led light bulbs amount of their LED sales come from the purchase of Cotco whose primary focus was on moving message panels used in displays/electronic bill boards.

"I`m so honored by this experience," said Jenni when accepting the grand prize. "I just want to congratulate the other teams because they were amazing, too."

The four finalists present at the ceremony were collectively responsible for preventing 10 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, Polar Bears International said. Each team and an advisor won an all-expenses-paid trip to San Diego for the awards ceremony.

Over the weekend, they also received free admission and behind-the-scenes tours at the San Diego Zoo and Sea World San Diego.

Energy Angels` project was to raise money to purchase and distribute CFL bulbs while promoting awareness for energy conservation.

"Our goal was 200 CFL bulbs, and we handed out 2,000," Jenni said.

"It was a close contest," Polar Bears International executive vice president Krista Wright said. "But the Energy Angels` tireless and passionate outreach, upbeat blog entries and success with community involvement especially impressed the judges."

"Saving energy is easy and something anyone can do," Alex said.

The Energy Angels` science teacher/advisor Jenna Whitney said the girls had to raise every dollar themselves. They started with bake sales, and then went to community outreach meetings.

"The girls were an inspiration to us every day," Marks said. "They worked so hard."

For their grand prize, the Energy Angels will travel to Churchill, Manitoba, in Canada in October to study polar bears in the wild.

"My advice to future participants would be to keep working," Steph said. "Even if it`s hard, because it`s worth it in the end."

Is LED the new undercabinet lighting? LED Lighting Pompano Beach FL
Pompano Beach, FL (WiredPRNews.com) With LED lights emerging rapidly on the market, more and more products are being manufactured in LED format. In the case of many household accent lighting, LED is becoming a fast favorite of many. Areas such as undercabinet lighting, cove lighting, up-lighting, and in lieu of a more traditional rope light. The versatility of the light, along with its long life span and energy-efficient operation are turning LED lighting into the frontrunner. There are positives as well as negatives to going the LED route compared to a more traditional light. Some positives, as mentioned above is the life span of the light. The life of an LED bulb can easily burn 100,000 hours without failure, compare that to the traditional incandescent or halogen bulbs lifespan of roughly 30,000 hours. The system can also be used close to people without any danger of electric shock.Rolled copper is obtained by squeezing led spotlight the copper foil, which is characterized by: a good degree of resistance to bending, but weaker than the electrical conductivity of copper is mainly used for clamshell camera phone and the like. From the exterior view, copper red, yellow copper rolling A volunteer carefully opened a sample of injectable butyl phthalide before placing the fingers close to the transport tube. Clear signals of the phthalide were detected by AFA-APCI MS.

The final example illustrated analysis in real time, using four closed bottles of acetonitrile, methanol, acetone and acetic acid. The collection tube was placed close to the cap of each bottle in turn, for ten seconds at a time, repeated over five minutes. The extracted ion chromatograms in the AFA-APCI MS spectra repeatedly displayed peaks for each compound over the time frame,sub-package and silicone resin package. Resin package prices cheaper, because the thermal performance dsttマジコン a bit weak, others are the same. Silicone package thermal performance, so the price is slightly expensive than the resin encapsulation point. monitoring vapour leakage from the bottles.

One operational positive noted by Abliz and Wang was the relative ease of operation compared with other ambient ionisations sources due to the wide collection tube diameter and fast flow rates which eliminated any dependence on the positions and angles of the tube and the sample surface.

The good performance achieved by AFAI with the 50-cm collection tube suggests that longer tubes might also be practical but further tests will need to be carried out for confirmation. In recent years, the tube was quickly Led light in the public eye, the space seemed huge market for a lot of companies have increased investment to share more market share. Meanwhile, the new ambient ionisation technique should be particularly useful for the surface analysis of large objects and remote monitoring in real time, as a result of the combined effects of the high air flow rate and the long collection tube.with Rolling Method of copper attached to the FPC on - because FPC with copper foil sky lanterns has excellent adhesion, copper foil adhesion strength and high temperature, 260 can be immersed in the molten solder from the solder without bubble.

The abundance of products lets you make outdoor spaces more functional, said Rich Young of Outdoor Living Brands in Richmond, Va. "It allows families to extend the square footage of their home. staple flat or the dreaded pinch flat!

Pfwissssssss! Nail flat, glass flat, staple flat or the dreaded pinch flat!

Avoid or fix that flat and get back on the road or trail as fast as you can, I say.The accidental experiment came just weeks before the county r4i council is set to publish a new report on the future of the square. Whether you're on the path or in the garage, these are my favorite tools to get rolling again.

My favorite commuter/touring tire is the Continental Contacts, a British-made tire with a flat-proof Kevlar lining and reflective sidewalls. Fast-rolling with a nice side tread for gripping corners in the urban jungle. My pair have been on the commuter for a year now with three thousand miles on them -- and so far have been flat-free (knock on wood). Plenty of tread left on them,"I trust that with University support, you and (redacted) have compact fluorescent the integrity and skills to be change agents," the letter said. "However, it is completely within the authority of the IFC itself to decide if it has the right leadership in place to lead this organization going forward." too; just keep them inflated to 85 p.Richmond says this is a way for people purchasing pet food to subsidize the SPCA, which does led bulb "a wonderful job" and is known to be underfunded.s.i.!

But if you should get a flat here are my favorite tools:

Crank Brothers Speedlever (under $10): This extendable lever takes most tires off the rim in one single motion and usually with one hand. Insert the lever end under the lip of the tire, stretch the segmented arm down to your skewer, secure and rotate.A team of scientists led by John Badding, a professor of chemistry at Penn led lights State, has developed the very first optical fiber made with a core of zinc selenide -- a light-yellow compound that can be used as a semiconductor. The inner tube is now exposed. Fix the flat, adjust the lever and zip the tire closed. Watch this video and see how easy it is.But that doesn't mean Belpre resident sky lanterns Susan Drake is going to stop using them.

Park Patch kit -- I always carry an extra tube or two because I don't want to patch flats by the side of the road if I can help it. And I like the old glue and patches instead of the instant patches. Permanent and durable. The one drawback is that you'll either have the tube of glue dry up on you or run out of the perfect size patch when you need it. I say buy two at a time.

Portable floor-type bike pump -- There are many types of bike pumps. But this hybrid of shop pump and portable pump appeals to me because you don't stress the valve stem on the inner tube like you would when using a typical frame-mounted bike pump. The pump attaches to the valve with a flexible hosing and the the pump has a little tab at the base that you fold down so you can support the body as you pump.
