So consumers should invest wisely. Here are some tips:

For the closest bulb to the old incandescent, choose a halogen incandescent bulb. It won't last as long as either a CFL or LED, and it won't save you as much money, but it will seem familiar.

But don't be fooled by sticker shock. Buying the cheaper halogen over an LED can be penny-wise and pound-foolish. Although an energy-efficient bulb may cost you more in the beginning, it will save you plenty - in some cases, more than $100 - over its life because it uses less energy. DOE aims to head off clean energy materials shortage

Those high-efficiency compact fluorescent lights that are supposed to replace energy-wasting incandescent bulbs have a looming problem: the materials to make them are in short supply.

So are materials vital for things like high-efficiency wind turbines and electric vehicle motors. Assistant Energy Secretary David Sandalow said those shortages could delay adoption of clean technologies, or make them more costly, so the Department of Energy has developed a strategy to try to avert shortages that is supported by $20 million in Congressional funding.

Despite consuming only around three to five percent of a data center's electrical load, lighting can make a greater impact on a data system's power usage effectiveness rating than many other efficiency systems, according to an article in the Data Center Journal.

In cold wet weather it is nonsense for councillors to expect people to spend their money in these conditions. Making things worse is the parking policy. It is impossible for families to park, find a cafe/restaurant and go shopping in one and a half hours. Even Halifax,They've been around for many many years but it wasn't until the late 1980's that there use was integrated into lightingbright. which is not a shoppers' Mecca, can manage two hours.

It is unbelievable that councillors can approve spending of tens of thousands of pounds of ratepayers' money on new parking meters and at the same time use the ordinary motorist of Huddersfield as a cash cow to finance other projects.

Burton hopes to reduce lighting costs by nearly $148,000 with LED grant

A $45,600 state grant will pay to install ballasts and buy light-emitting diode (LED) lights at City Hall and the Department of Public Works and Police Administration buildings, said Councilman Steve Heffner.
